2h00 pm - August 24 2008

Almost all the residents of Middle Bay assisted to the beginning of the night section Saturday night. Before that, the teams enjoyed another meal prepared by the locals. Some of them also prepared some t-shirts to support the competitors! Almost all the teams chose to do the night section. The athletes had the choice to reach the checkpoints in the order they want. The strategy was important. ARVERN OUTDOOR had problems with a bike. They’ve been able to continue after they had borrowed another one. Finally, the team SPORT 2000 LAFUMA arrived first, followed by PEDINI IRET and ARVERN OUTDOOR, who did catch up with the other competitors after their bike problems. Local Team HARRINGTON was the last to finish the section after orientation problems. But they chose to finish all the checkpoints before heading back! They finished at 1H47 a.m.

Today, the competitors are tired but still having fun. They started with a bike section. After, they had to do a hard 13 Km trekking section near the coast, heading east, back to Blanc-Sablon. Along to way, they had a nice surprise at the rope section. The athletes had to cross the Brador waterfalls 50 meters up in the air! They had to do zip lining between two cliffs. A lot of people came to see this spectacular section. After, it was time to get away from the coast and head to trekking and bike sections around Blanc-Sablon in big areas of tundra. Orientations have been a challenge in this part of the race. The first teams should finish the race at the school in Blanc-Sablon around 14H30. The last ones should finish the Coast Raid around 6 p.m.

At this time, the team LOCATION SAUVAGEAU from Baie-Comeau is leading today. They’re followed closely by the French teams ARVERN OUTDOOR and SPORT 2000 LAFUMA. A lot of locals should be there for the finish. The awards ceremony will take place tonight. We will post a new update during the night with the results.

3h30 pm - August 23 2008

An another day on unexplored territories completed with success. After the kayak section this morning, the teams did wonderful sections of trekking and coasteering. They made a lot of discoveries along the way. One team found a dead whale on the shore. The competitors explored a good part of the coast near Middle bay on foot and ont their bike.

We can feel that the teams start to be tired on this 3rd day of racing. The teams must use different strategies to stay in top shape. Some of the teams like Yogaslackers decided not to do the extreme section of todays course to rest and get ready for tonight stage that will start at 10h00 pm.

The race is as close as it can get! So far, the top 3 for todays section is Arvern Outdoor, Sport 2000 Lafuma and Xtreme South Africa. The last team is expected around 7h30 pm tonight.

After St-Paul yesterday, it's Middle Bay people that have surprise the organisation and racers with a seafood banquet. The racers are very happy as they won't have to cook before the night stage.

9h30 am-August 23 2008

The start was given on the shore of St-Paul River this morning at 7H30. There was fog earlier, but the sky is clearing out quickly. The team strategies can do a major difference this morning. The competitors had to do a 3 hours kayak section to begin. Normally, there would be two portage sections, but a few teams chose to do kayak on a longer distance to avoid one, like AZIMUT and PEDINI IRET. The race is still tight between the leading teams. For those who follow the race online, there's some problems with the GPS system of the team AZIMUT. Bike sections will follow on an amazing course right in the canadian tundra where no one has ever set foot! The teams are heading east. During the afternoon, the athetes will do a lot of trekking and coastering to get some checkpoints. The finish will be at Middle Bay. The competitors have to rest a few hours to get ready for the night section that will begin at 10 p.m.

5h00 pm-August 22 2008

It was a sunny but windy day for the competitors of the Coast Raid. The temperature was around 20 degrees. The kayak sections around the islands near St-Paul River were harder than usual because of the windy conditions. The race was very tight at the beginning of the day between the leading teams. The competitors had to do trekking sections during the day on islands near the shore. After a 15 m rope section, the XTREME SOUTH AFRICA TEAM, who was in first place, lost precious time when they decided to transport their bikes through some bush instead of taking the road. The french team ARVERN OUTDOOR seized this opportunity to take the lead.

After, the adventure swimming section with floatting equipment was the hardest of the day for the athletes. The wind made the teams drift and they had to work hard to complete the distance of 800 meters. Some competitors had problems after their air mattresses slowly deflated. The temperature of the water is between 10 and 15 degrees. Many locals came to see this section near a fish plant east of St-Paul. Finally, the athletes had to do a last section of bike to get back to the village.

The first team arrived shortly after 4 p.m. The team ARVERN OUTDOOR (Fred Parzych and Stéphane Dumortier) from France finished first with a comfortable lead. The second team to arrive was XTREME SOUTH AFRICA ( Philippe Jean van der Leeuw and Jeremy Green). SPORT 2000 LAFUMA (Hervé Simon and Guillaume Peyronnet) also from France was the third team to cross de finish line. In the mixted category, the american team YOGASLACKERS (Jason Magness, Daniel Staudigel, Lina Augaitis and Mark Latanzi) arrived first for a second day in a row.

Tonight, the athletes will taste some of local seafood offered by residents of St-Paul River. The start will be at 7 a.m tomorrow. The race will take place near Middle Bay and there will be a night section saturday to sunday.

6h00 pm 21 August 2008

The suffering have now begun. The race started with a 20 km distance on the St-Lawrence river with the kayaks. The team HARRINGTON had a little problem with their boat. But they quickly catched up with the other competitors after a quick repair. Back on the land near Old-Fort, The teams had to do some trekking to reach a few check points between mountains. An incredible 70 meters rope section was the next event on a big cliff near the water. What a wonderful sight up there! The teams had to get wet to return to their kayaks because of the high tide. The south african team was leading around noon.

Then, for the bike section, they had to pass trough the Old-Fort village and climb big hills to get to some checkpoints between lakes and big mountains. The participants that made it to the "Extreme" course needed to do an other trekking section on an island in front of Old-Fort. The finish is in the heart of the village. The first team arrived around 5 p.m. The last one is expected at 10 p.m.
